Trump blasts Senate vote on Iran, says Tehran is "on the ropes”
US President Donald Trump criticised the Senate over a resolution aimed at ending military action against Tehran, making the remarks in a post on Truth Social.
“So, I have Iran on the 'ropes,' ready to go down for the fall, willing to give us practically anything, and for the first time in decades, respecting the hell out of the United States and its President, ME, and the U.S. Senate decides to have a poorly timed and meaningless War Powers Act Vote, telling the Number One Sponser of Terror in the World that the United States doesn’t like what I am doing to them, and I must stop, and by so doing has provided aid and comfort the Enemy.
Four Republican Losers voted with the Dumocrats, and Iran asked my people, 'what does that all mean?' These Senators have just made my job more difficult, but I will get it done, one way or the other, because I always get it done!” Trump wrote.
The Senate's June 23 vote on the Iran war powers resolution represented a notable bipartisan pushback against President Trump's military actions in the ongoing conflict.
The resolution (H.Con.Res. 86), which originated in the House (passed earlier in June), directs the President to terminate the use of US Armed Forces in hostilities against Iran unless Congress declares war or provides specific authorisation under the 1973 War Powers Resolution.
It passed the Senate 50-48, with four Republicans (Sens. Bill Cassidy, Susan Collins, Lisa Murkowski, and Rand Paul) joining most Democrats; this marked the first time both chambers of Congress approved such a measure on Iran.
