Trump committed to ending Ukraine war despite Biden's opposition- Hungarian FM says
Hungarian Minister of Foreign Affairs and Trade, Péter Szijjártó, has stated that US President-elect Donald Trump is dedicated to resolving the conflict in Ukraine, emphasizing that this goal remains achievable despite potential hindrances from the outgoing leadership under President Joe Biden.
In a conversation with future US National Security Adviser Mike Waltz in Washington on December 4, Szijjártó shared his optimism regarding Trump’s commitment to ending the war swiftly, Caliber.Az reports via Russian media.
"We are very close to making Donald Trump's goal of ending this war quickly a reality," he remarked, reflecting on his meeting with Waltz, who has been nominated by Trump for the crucial national security role.
Szijjártó also highlighted a stark contrast in positions between the incoming and outgoing US administrations. At the NATO foreign ministers' meeting in Brussels on December 3-4, US Secretary of State Antony Blinken expressed support for prolonging the Ukrainian conflict. According to Szijjártó, the Biden administration is actively "trying to make it difficult to make peace" in Ukraine as Trump's inauguration approaches on January 20.
Szijjártó further recalled that the Ukrainian conflict was a prominent issue during the US election campaign, noting that while Trump voiced his intent to end the war, Vice President Kamala Harris supported continuing military actions.
