Trump declares historic economic success ahead with retaliatory tariffs

US President Donald Trump has announced that the US will achieve historic economic success by commenting on his recent decision to impose retaliatory tariffs on several countries.

On April 2, President Trump announced the introduction of "reciprocal" tariffs on the US foreign trading partners, with 185 countries included in the list. The minimum base tariff will be set at 10 per cent, but for certain countries, the tariffs will be calculated individually based on the US trade deficit with them.

For instance, tariffs on China will be 34 per cent, on the EU — 20 per cent, and on Japan — 24 per cent. On April 4, Chinese authorities decided to implement additional tariffs of 34 per cent on US goods. The Chinese Ministry of Commerce stated that these are "retaliatory tariffs" in response to measures previously announced by Washington. These new tariffs will come into effect on April 10.
