Trump's battle of survival: Spies, big money, and D.C. insiders Shaking the power tree

18 September 2024 14:45

Attempts on Republican presidential candidate Donald Trump suggest a growing trend of violence in American politics, according to CNN. The network believes these incidents reflect a "latent tendency toward violence," exacerbated by the widespread availability of firearms in the U.S. CNN warns that such events during the presidential race could lead the country "down a dark path."

This marks the second assassination attempt in a single election cycle, both targeting the same candidate. Is this merely a coincidence? Or could it indicate that certain forces in the U.S. dislike Trump so intensely that they would consider his physical elimination to prevent him from returning to the White House?

Renowned American experts have weighed in on these pressing questions in a conversation with Caliber.Az.

Analyst and publicist Professor Grigory Ioffe highlights that Donald Trump undoubtedly poses a problem for "certain forces" within the U.S.

"It’s so obvious there's no need to overanalyze. Trump clashes with the intelligence community, a large segment of the oligarchy — particularly the military-industrial complex — and a significant portion of the Washington bureaucracy. That said, it doesn’t necessarily mean these groups orchestrated the assassination attempts. To make such a claim, one would need concrete evidence, which I certainly do not have. However, what is equally compelling is the continuous vilification of Trump by much of the press aligned with the Democratic Party, often in terms that openly incite violence. If someone is portrayed as a Hitler-like figure day in and day out for eight or nine years, being labelled an existential threat to the country and ‘our democracy,’ it's no surprise that the least stable individuals might pick up a gun. The issue of firearm accessibility isn’t decisive here, because such people will find weapons regardless," Professor Ioffe explains.

Ironically, Ioffe points out, Trump is accused of inciting violence, yet he remains the target of abuse.

"The real threat to ‘our democracy’ stems from the opposite end of the political spectrum, where censorship is zealously enforced, and the judiciary has been weaponized for political investigations against opponents. To complete the logical circle, the Democratic Party represents the corporate-bureaucratic factions that Trump has consistently opposed," Ioffe concludes.

Political commentator John Varoli explains that there is a fundamental misunderstanding about the role of the American president, both within the U.S. and globally.

"We call him the commander-in-chief, which literally means the military commander. This title underscores that the president's primary role is in foreign policy. The U.S. president’s most important task is expanding the power and influence of the American empire because in foreign policy, the president wields absolute, unchecked power. However, in domestic affairs, it’s much more complex due to the federal system, various states, Congress, the Supreme Court, and other institutions. Here, the president is just one player and doesn’t hold as much influence. Real power within America lies with the oligarchy, whom the president serves and answers to. Elections are essentially for show. It doesn’t matter much who occupies the White House, as U.S. foreign policy remains consistent across administrations. Certain areas of U.S. foreign policy are fixed, and the elites ensure that no president deviates from this course."

According to Varoli, the real issue with Donald Trump is that, if elected again, he will be a completely different Trump from his first term, making him difficult for the oligarchy to control.

"He won’t consult with them and is openly determined to diminish their power. This frightens them because they understand they cannot allow Trump back into the White House. This fear has already led to two assassination attempts, one of which is reportedly connected to Ukraine. The U.S. oligarchy is using Ukraine as a tool in its long-standing objective to weaken Russia, which has been the cornerstone of U.S. foreign policy for 25 years, particularly with NATO’s eastward expansion. Trump, however, advocates negotiating with Russia and halting NATO’s progression, a stance that directly contradicts the interests of the American elites," the expert notes.

Varoli predicts that Kamala Harris will win the upcoming election, as "the oligarchy will ensure that Trump does not win. Even if Trump remains alive, he will still be viewed as a threat, and I expect more assassination attempts even after November 5. Alternatively, they may imprison him and eliminate him that way. The oligarchy is relentless and will continue its campaign to subdue Russia, no matter what."
