Trump says he told Netanyahu to stop taking credit for Iron Dome “That’s our technology”

22 January 2026 09:33

US President Donald Trump has claimed he told Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu to stop taking credit for Israel’s Iron Dome missile defence system, saying the technology was “entirely American”.

Speaking at the World Economic Forum in Davos, Trump made the remarks while outlining plans for a proposed US missile defence programme known as the Golden Dome, Caliber.Az reports per Israeli media.

"I told Bibi to stop taking credit for the dome," he said. "That’s our technology, that’s our stuff."

Trump said the United States’ support for Israel’s missile defence was significant, but argued that Washington was now planning a far more advanced system.

“What we did for Israel is amazing, but that’s nothing compared to what we have planned for the United States, Canada, and the rest of the world,” he said.

“We are going to build a dome like no other. We did it for Israel,” he added.

“They did a good job, and they wiped out the Iranian nuclear threat as nobody could ever believe,” he said.

The Golden Dome project was first announced by Trump in May. At the time, he said the US had assisted Israel with the Iron Dome but possessed more advanced technology of its own.

According to Reuters, the system is estimated to cost around $175 billion, based on a Trump administration presentation seen last August. The US Space Force has since awarded several small contracts to defence companies, including Northrop Grumman, Lockheed Martin and Anduril, to develop competing missile defence prototypes.

During a question-and-answer session following his Davos speech, Trump also addressed the situation in Gaza, saying it would soon be clear whether Hamas would agree to give up its weapons.

“That’s what they agreed to. They’ve got to do it. And we’re going to know ... over the next two or three days – certainly over the next three weeks – whether or not they’re going to do it,” he said.

“If they don’t do it, they’ll be blown away very quickly. They’ll be blown away.”
