Trump says Iran joining US, Israel, Hamas in Gaza negotiations
On June 9, US President Donald Trump stated that Iran is participating in ongoing negotiations over the Gaza Strip, alongside the United States, Israel, and the Palestinian group Hamas.
“Gaza right now is in the midst of a massive negotiation between us and Hamas, and Israel and Iran actually is involved,” Caliber.Az quotes Trump as saying per foreign media.
The US president did not clarify the specific nature of Tehran’s involvement but added: “We’ll see what’s going to happen with Gaza.”
“We want to get the hostages back. It’s all I can tell you,” he said.
According to Israeli and American media, as well as Palestinian sources, the US has put forward a 13-point proposal to both Hamas and Israel.
The plan reportedly includes a 60-day truce, mutual releases of hostages and prisoners, and a framework for discussions on Gaza’s long-term governance. It also outlines Hamas’ release of 10 living Israeli captives and the remains of 18 others, to take place in two phases.
Despite mounting international pressure to halt its military campaign, Israel has continued its offensive in Gaza since October 2023.
The assault has resulted in the deaths of over 54,400 Palestinians, the majority of them women and children, according to local health authorities. Humanitarian organisations have warned of an imminent risk of famine in the besieged territory.
In November, the International Criminal Court issued arrest warrants for Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and former Defence Minister Yoav Gallant, accusing them of war crimes and crimes against humanity in Gaza.
Israel also faces allegations of genocide at the International Court of Justice over its conduct during the ongoing conflict.
