Trump says seizing Iran’s Kharg island could bring “fortune” to US
US President Donald Trump has stated that a scenario involving the seizure of Iran’s Kharg Island has long been his preferred option, noting that taking control of the island could “bring a fortune” to the United States.
In an interview with Fox News, Trump also said he does not want to carry out a ground military operation against Iran, but insisted that US forces have the capability to do so, Caliber.Az reports.
“We'll bomb the S— out of them tomorrow,” he said, referring to Iran.
Kharg Island hosts Iran’s main oil export terminals. The US leader has previously repeatedly threatened Tehran with the seizure of the island.
Trump further noted that Iran currently has roughly 20% of the missile stockpiles it possessed before the start of the conflict.
At the same time, the White House chief expressed doubt that American society would be ready for a prolonged operation to establish control over the island.
“I’m not sure if the country has the appetite for it,” he added.
