Trump says Strait of Hormuz will “naturally” reopen after Iran conflict
President Donald Trump stated that the Strait of Hormuz – a key shipping passage near Iran that has remained closed since US strikes in February – will simply “open up naturally” once the conflict ends, offering an optimistic outlook as oil prices climb.
“Iran has been essentially decimated – the hard part is done, so it should be easy, and in any event, when this conflict is over, the strait will open up naturally, it will just open up naturally,” Trump said during a primetime address to the nation.
“They are going to want to be able to sell oil, because that’s all they have to try and rebuild,” he added.
As gasoline prices reached $4 per gallon earlier this week for the first time since 2022, the president sought to downplay the rising costs on April 1, asserting that the Strait of Hormuz reopening would resume the flow and that gas prices would rapidly decline.
