Brent surges above $106 after Trump signals tougher Iran strikes
02 April 2026 09:17
Global oil prices surged after US President Donald Trump signalled a more aggressive approach toward Iran, dampening expectations of a near-term resolution to the Middle East conflict.
According to Reuters, Brent crude rose by around 5 per cent, reaching $106.16 per barrel following Trump’s closely watched address.
The agency noted that investor hopes for a quick de-escalation faded after Trump pledged tougher strikes against Iran, offering no clear signals about a potential exit from the conflict.
The speech also failed to provide assurances for the reopening of the Strait of Hormuz, a critical energy transit route, adding to market uncertainty and supporting the rise in oil prices.
