Wildfire burns for second day in Latvian nature reserve
Firefighters in Latvia are continuing efforts to contain a wild fire that has been burning for two days in a protected nature reserve, authorities said.
The State Forest Service (VMD) said that the blaze has so far affected 6.51 hectares of land, Caliber.Az reports per Latvian media.
According to officials, firefighting efforts initially involved both the State Forest Service and the State Fire and Rescue Service. As of today, operations are being carried out solely by the VMD.
Authorities have urged residents to exercise extreme caution when handling fire in forested areas, noting that the country’s fire hazard season has been in effect since April 1.
During this period, strict regulations are in place, including bans on discarding burning objects in forests, lighting fires outside designated areas, and driving off-road through forest and marshland zones.
