Trump slams Biden for "giving away" billions to Ukraine “Like taking candy from a baby”

05 March 2025 14:12

US President Donald Trump stated that the administration of former President Joe Biden had agreed too easily to allocate budget funds for aid to Ukraine.

Trump repeated a claim that the US has spent $350 billion, “like taking candy from a baby,” to support Ukraine’s defense while Europe has collectively provided just $100 billion in aid, Caliber.Az reports, citing US media.

Note that, The Trump administration has suspended all US military aid to Ukraine, blocking the delivery of billions of dollars' worth of crucial shipments as the White House increases pressure on Kyiv to negotiate a peace deal with Vladimir Putin.

The decision affects supplies of ammunition, vehicles, and other military equipment, including shipments previously agreed under President Joe Biden.

It follows a heated exchange in the White House on February 28, during which President Donald Trump, angered by what he perceived as a lack of respect and gratitude from Ukraine’s leadership, warned President Volodymyr Zelenskyy that he was “gambling with” the prospect of a third world war. Zelenskyy was reportedly told to return “when he is ready for peace.”

Ukraine’s Prime Minister, Denys Shmyhal, said on March 4, that Kyiv remained capable of sustaining its frontline forces but warned that thousands of lives were at risk and that vital US-supplied air defence systems could be affected.

“We will continue working with the US through all available channels in a calm manner,” Shmyhal told reporters. “We have only one plan – to win and to survive.”

Moscow welcomed the decision, with Kremlin spokesperson Dmitry Peskov stating that the US had been “the main supplier of this war so far.”

European and NATO allies were not informed in advance, according to a spokesperson for Poland’s foreign ministry.

“This is a very significant decision, and the situation is extremely serious,” said ministry official Paweł Wroński. “It was made without any prior information or consultation with NATO allies or the Ramstein group.” The Ramstein group, comprising 57 nations, has coordinated military assistance to Ukraine since the war began.
