Trump vows to send communism’s hammer and sickle “into oblivion” again
President Donald Trump said the United States would once again “send the hammer and sickle into oblivion” if necessary, referring to the symbols of communism, The New York Times (NYT) reports.
“The Stars and Stripes cast the hammer and sickle into oblivion before, and we will do it again if necessary,” Trump said during a speech in Washington marking the 250th anniversary of the United States.
According to the president, communism has recently “raised its ugly head” again, including within the United States itself. Trump described the communist system as the complete opposite of the American model and compared it to “a tumor” that must be removed immediately.
He stressed that the United States would never become a communist country. During the speech, Trump also thanked veterans of the war against communism, including those who served in the Vietnam War and the Korean War.
