Trump warns Israel could lose all US support if it annexes West Bank
US President Donald Trump warned that Israel would “lose all of its support from the United States” if it moved to annex the West Bank, emphasising his commitment to maintaining regional stability and honouring agreements with Arab nations.
In an interview with TIME at the White House, Trump said he had made clear to Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu that annexation of the territory was off the table, Caliber.Az reports.
“It won't happen. It won't happen. It won’t happen because I gave my word to the Arab countries. And you can't do that now. We've had great Arab support. It won't happen because I gave my word to the Arab countries. It will not happen. Israel would lose all of its support from the United States if that happened,” he said.
Meanwhile, a bill applying Israeli law to the West Bank, a move tantamount to annexation of the territory Israel captured in the 1967 Middle East war, won preliminary approval from Israeli lawmakers on October 22.
The vote was the first of four needed to pass the law and coincided with US Vice-President JD Vance’s visit to Israel.
“The West Bank is not going to be annexed by Israel. The policy of President Trump is that the West Bank will not be annexed. This will always be our policy,” Vance said during his trip.
