Trump, Zelenskyy to meet on sidelines of G7 summit in Canada
A White House official announced late on June 15 that US President Donald Trump will meet with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy during the G7 summit in Canada.
This will mark the first in-person meeting between Trump and Zelenskyy since their last encounter at Pope Francis’ funeral in April. The summit provides a key opportunity for dialogue on pressing international issues as world leaders gather, Caliber.Az reports via foreign media.
The 51st G7 summit, taking place from June 15 to 17 in Kananaskis, Alberta brings together leaders from the United States, Canada, France, Italy, Japan, Germany, and Britain, along with European Union representatives and invited heads of state.
In addition to his meeting with Zelenskyy, President Trump is also scheduled to hold talks with Canadian Prime Minister Mark Carney and Mexican President Claudia Sheinbaum during the event.
First-time attendees at this year’s summit include German Chancellor Friedrich Merz, British Prime Minister Keir Starmer, and Japanese Prime Minister Shigeru Ishiba.
During his first term, Trump blew up the G7 meeting in 2018, which was also held in Canada, y abruptly withdrawing from a joint communique that had been agreed upon by world leaders.
