Türkiye detains nine in operation targeting FETÖ “marriage network”

Nine people have been detained in Türkiye as part of an operation targeting the so-called “marriage network” of the FETÖ terrorist organisation, with arrests carried out in eight provinces, TRT Haber reports.

The operation was conducted under the coordination of the Istanbul Chief Public Prosecutor’s Office by the Counterterrorism Branch and the Intelligence Branch.

According to investigators, the so-called “marriage network” was used to maintain loyalty to the organisation and preserve its internal cohesion. Those responsible for arranging marriages collected information about members, including their age, education, occupation, marital status and other personal details, as well as photographs.

Candidates were matched according to criteria established within the organisation through closed digital groups. The investigation was launched following an analysis of digital devices seized from a suspected coordinator of the network.

Authorities identified 13 suspects and conducted simultaneous searches at 13 addresses in Istanbul, Ankara, Kocaeli, Karabük, Denizli, Gaziantep, Kayseri and Samsun.

Nine suspects were detained during the operation, and evidence was seized.
