Turkish Airlines to launch flights to Yerevan, Armenian MP confirms
Turkish Airlines is set to begin operating flights to Armenia in the near future, Armenian officials confirmed.
Sargis Handanyan, head of the Armenian Parliament's Standing Committee on Foreign Relations, announced the development during a briefing in parliament, as reported by Caliber.Az citing Armenian media.
"Turkish Airlines' entry into the Armenian market has been discussed for a decade, so to speak. But for political reasons, the airline has never entered Armenia. The statement following the last meeting of special representatives said that cooperation in the aviation sector needed to be intensified. And now we see that Turkish Airlines has announced upcoming flights to Yerevan," Handanyan said.
While the exact start date of the flights has not yet been revealed, Handanyan noted that technical and legal matters, including licensing, still need to be resolved. He expressed confidence, however, that the flights will commence in the near future.
Handanyan also emphasized that there are no major obstacles to normalizing relations between Armenia and Türkiye, adding that Yerevan is awaiting active steps from the Turkish side to move the process forward.
At the end of September, Turkish Airlines itself announced plans to launch flights to the Armenian capital, signaling a potential new chapter in regional aviation and bilateral relations.
