Turkish authorities detain two key Al-Qaeda members in Istanbul VIDEO
Two individuals, accused of being members of the al-Qaeda network, have been detained by Turkish authorities in Istanbul.
The suspects had been on the wanted list since 2018, Caliber.Az reports via Turkish media.
Following intelligence indicating that two men, aged 45 and 51, were residing in Istanbul, anti-terrorism teams from the Istanbul Police Department conducted an operation in Avcılar, a district in the city. The suspects, L.B. (45) and S.B. (51), were tracked to a basement in a five-story building, where they were apprehended.The two brothers had been fugitives in connection with a criminal case involving al-Qaeda members in 2018. In their absence, they were convicted for “membership of an armed terrorist organisation.” L.B. received a sentence of seven years and six months in prison, while S.B. was sentenced to nine and a half years.
After being questioned by police, the suspects were presented before a judge on January 22. Both L.B. and S.B. were arrested and transferred to Metris Prison to await further legal proceedings.
