Turkish companies to attend NATO meeting on Ukraine
NATO is meeting with executives from 25 major defence contractors, including Türkiye, to discuss Ukraine’s need for more ammunition and its allies’ needs to restock.
In particular, NATO will call on Western armaments companies to increase their production capacities, Caliber.Az reports, citing SavunmaSanayiST.com on Twitter.
Along with many defence industry companies, Türkiye’s ROKETSAN and BAYKAR companies have also been invited to the NATO Defence Ministers’ Meeting, which will be held on June 15-16 at the NATO Headquarters in Brussels.
NATO companies are working to create a new "Defence Manufacturing Action Plan" to identify targets for investment and signal cumulative demand from alliance members for the industry.
Raytheon Technologies and Lockheed Martin, which makes Javelin missile launchers, HIMARS and Patriot missile systems for the Ukrainian Armed Forces, will also be present at the meeting.
European companies FN Herstal from Belgium, Franco-Italian MBDA, Patria from Finland, Rheinmetall from Germany, Nammo from Norway, the joint KNDS - German KMW and French Nexter, and Leonardo from Italy are among the guests.
The meeting of defence ministers will begin with a meeting of the Defence Contact Group of Ukraine. This will be followed by a ceremony for the new members of NATO’s Multinational Ammunition Storage Initiative and a reception for the CEOs of defence contractors from 25 NATO member nations.
NATO defence ministers will conclude the first day’s meetings with the NATO-Ukraine Commission session. EU High Commissioner for Foreign Affairs and Security Josep Borrell will attend the meeting, as will Sweden, which hopes to join NATO by lifting Türkiye’s veto in July.
On the second day of the meeting, a NATO Council meeting and meetings of the nuclear planning group will take place with the participation of Sweden. NATO defence ministers, who will also discuss the issue of military aid to Ukraine, which launched its counteroffensive, will look at ways to continue military support to Ukraine and replenish its stocks.
