Turkish customs seize 1.3 tons of cannabis in major anti-smuggling operation

18 October 2025 15:23

Turkish Customs Enforcement authorities have confiscated a total of 1,326 kilograms of cannabis in a coordinated operation targeting drug trafficking, the Ministry of Trade announced.

The operation, carried out by the Tekirdağ and İpsala Customs Enforcement Anti-Smuggling and Intelligence Directorates, involved tracking and inspecting suspicious vehicles entering customs areas as part of ongoing risk analysis and targeting procedures, Caliber.Az reports, citing Turkish media.

Authorities recovered 1,153 kilograms of cannabis at the Tekirdağ Customs Area and 173 kilograms at the İpsala Customs Gate. The total value of the seized drugs is estimated at around 809 million Turkish Lira ($19.4 million).

“This fight, carried out with zero-tolerance and aimed at protecting our families, society, youth, and future — the core elements of our national unity — continues without interruption,” the Ministry said in a statement.

Investigations into the incident are being rigorously conducted under the supervision of the Tekirdağ and İpsala Public Prosecutor’s Offices.
