Turkish customs seize over one ton of narcotics at Bulgarian border
Turkish customs authorities have intercepted more than one ton of narcotics in a series of anti-smuggling operations at the Kapıkule Border Gate on the country's border with Bulgaria, thwarting an attempt to bring the drugs into Türkiye.
Customs enforcement officers from Türkiye's Ministry of Trade seized a total of 1,153 kilograms of narcotics during inspections of two separate trucks, TRT Haber reports.
In one vehicle, officers discovered 450 packages of marijuana weighing more than 526 kilograms. A second truck was found to be carrying 530 packages of narcotics with a combined weight of approximately 627 kilograms.
The total value of the seized drugs is estimated at more than 6.5 million Turkish liras (approximately $133,000). Authorities have launched an investigation into the attempted smuggling operation, which remains ongoing.
