Turkish FM Fidan heads to UAE for talks on regional security, Gaza

Turkish Foreign Minister Hakan Fidan is set to travel to the United Arab Emirates for an official visit, with regional security, freedom of navigation and the situation in Gaza among the key issues on the agenda, TRT Haber reports.

During his meetings, the sides will discuss regional security, freedom of navigation in the Strait of Hormuz and the Bab el-Mandeb Strait, preparations for the second meeting of the High-Level Strategic Council, as well as the situation in Gaza and other regional hotspots.

Fidan is scheduled to meet UAE President Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, UAE Vice President Sheikh Mansour bin Zayed Al Nahyan, and National Security Adviser Sheikh Tahnoon bin Zayed Al Nahyan.

Maritime security will be one of the key topics of the talks. The Turkish foreign minister will emphasise the importance of ensuring freedom of navigation in the Strait of Hormuz and the Bab el-Mandeb Strait. Ankara also advocates resolving regional crises with the leading role of the countries of the region themselves.

Particular attention will be paid to the situation in Gaza and Lebanon. Türkiye supports moving to the second phase of the Gaza peace plan, rebuilding infrastructure, and maintaining the ceasefire.

The visit will also include consultations on the activities of the Board of Peace, which was established by Türkiye and the UAE.

In addition, the sides will discuss trade and economic relations.
