Turkish FM highlights energy, air transport as key priorities of Syrian government
The priority tasks of the new Syrian authorities are the restoration of energy and air communication, Turkish Foreign Minister Hakan Fidan said.
“It is necessary to take serious steps as soon as possible, especially in the field of energy and air transport, which are necessary to rebuild the country,” he said at a press conference following talks in Qatar, Caliber.Az reports, citing Turkish media outlets.
Fidan expressed hope that the country's economy would improve after the implementation of the tasks.
He stressed that the lifting of international sanctions is also important for Syria, as well as the unification of all active armed groups into a national army.
In addition, the new Syrian authorities need to pay attention to the fight against terrorism, the foreign minister.
Türkiye has significantly increased its involvement in Syria's reconstruction following the recent political changes in Damascus. With the ousting of President Bashar al-Assad and the rise of the new government led by Hayat Tahrir al-Sham (HTS), Türkiye is positioning itself as a key player in rebuilding Syria's infrastructure and economy.
Additionally, Türkiye is advocating for the lifting of international financial sanctions on Syria to facilitate reconstruction. Turkish officials have emphasized the importance of removing these sanctions to enable effective rebuilding and economic recovery in Syria.
