Turkish FM, Libya’s eastern parliament chief discuss path out of political crisis

13 August 2026 09:50

Turkish Foreign Minister Hakan Fidan and Aguila Saleh, speaker of Libya’s eastern-based House of Representatives, have discussed efforts to resolve the country’s political crisis and developments in the region.

The two officials also discussed bilateral relations, ways to strengthen them and other issues of mutual interest, Caliber.Az reports via foreign media.

During their meeting in Benghazi, Saleh stressed the need to resolve the crisis by unifying Libya’s state institutions and holding presidential and parliamentary elections that reflect the will of the Libyan people, according to Abdullah Blihak, spokesman for the House of Representatives.

Saleh expressed support for reconstruction and urban development projects being carried out with the participation of the Libya Development and Reconstruction Fund. He also welcomed the involvement of Turkish companies in reconstruction programmes in eastern and southern Libya.

Fidan’s meeting with Saleh followed talks earlier on Wednesday with Khalifa Haftar, commander of the Libyan National Army.

The Turkish foreign minister arrived in Libya for a two-day official visit, marking his first trip to Benghazi.
