Turkish FM urges US, Iran to return to talks, finalise deal
On June 11, Türkiye's Foreign Minister Hakan Fidan urged the United States and Iran to return to negotiations and finalise an agreement that is close to completion, warning that further escalation would serve no one's interests.
Speaking in Sofia after talks with Bulgaria's Foreign Minister Velislava Petrova-Chamova, Fidan called on both sides to halt their mutual attacks and resume diplomatic efforts aimed at reaching a settlement, Caliber.Az reports, citing foreign media.
"We recommend that the parties stop their mutual attacks, return to the negotiating table and complete the text of the agreement, the conclusion of which is within reach," Fidan said.
He said Türkiye was directing its diplomatic efforts towards reducing tensions and preventing a broader regional conflict.
"We have all seen and experienced that the escalation of war, rising tensions and a return to a state of total military confrontation benefit no one," Fidan said. "However difficult it may be, the negotiations must be brought to a successful conclusion."
