A key logistics officer of the PKK/KCK terrorist organisation has been neutralised in northern Iraq by Türkiye’s National Intelligence Organisation (MIT).
According to sources from Turkish security services, MIT’s precise operation targeted and eliminated Serhat Tagay, codenamed "Mervan Hizan," in the Gara region of northern Iraq, Caliber.Az reports per Turkish media.
MIT’s intelligence work revealed that Tagay had been responsible for organising attacks against Turkish security forces in Gara, as well as overseeing the supply of weapons, ammunition, and explosives in line with directives from the organisation’s leadership.
Thus, Tagay joined the PKK/KCK in 2014 and took on a prominent role in the organisation’s logistical operations. Between 2015 and 2016, he received both military and ideological training in Gara. From 2017 to 2019, he was active in the Zap region of northern Iraq, where he participated in numerous attacks against Turkish security forces.
In 2020 and 2021, Tagay was involved in the Syrian "People's Defence Units" (YPG), and he continued his operations in Iraq/Gara in 2022 and 2023.
Additionally, he served as a bodyguard for high-ranking PKK members working in the organisation’s leadership team in Iraq.
