Turkish leader, Omani sultan discuss rising Israel-Iran tensions during phone talk

15 June 2025 16:23

Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan has held a phone conversation with Omani Sultan Haitham bin Tariq bin Taimur Al Said to discuss the escalating conflict between Israel and Iran, as well as broader regional and global developments.

In a statement released by the Turkish Communications Directorate, Erdogan expressed deep concern over the ongoing hostilities, warning that “the clashes sparked by Israel’s attacks on Iran pose a significant risk to regional security,” and emphasizing that “the region cannot tolerate a new war”, Caliber.Az reports via Turkish media.

The Turkish leader also issued a sharp rebuke of Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu’s government, describing it as “a problem for global stability and security.”

Erdogan highlighted the timing of the latest military escalation, which comes just ahead of the sixth round of international negotiations over Iran’s nuclear programme.

He reaffirmed Ankara’s long-standing position that “negotiation is the only way to resolve the nuclear dispute.” In addition to political and security concerns, Erdogan underscored the humanitarian consequences of the ongoing conflicts in the region.

He called for greater attention to be paid to the situation in Gaza, stating that “the recent developments must not overshadow the genocide being carried out by Israel in Gaza.”

On June 13, the military operation launched by Israel against key components of Iran’s nuclear and military infrastructure has escalated to a much harsher level. The objective remains the complete elimination of the Islamic Republic’s capability to develop nuclear weapons.

According to the latest data, the Israeli Air Force has struck more than a hundred targets, deploying approximately 200 combat aircraft and over 330 precision-guided munitions, according to official figures. The Israel Defense Forces (IDF) emphasises that this is a large-scale, coordinated operation targeting both military facilities and the nuclear programme infrastructure across the entire territory of Iran.
