Turkish media upbeat about future of Türkiye-US relations

US sources emphasize that a new era has begun between the US and Türkiye, according to the Turkish Hurriyet newspaper.

First, with Türkiye's approval of Sweden's NATO membership and then with the US acceptance of the request for 40 Block 70 F-16 fighter jets and modernization kits for 79 aircraft, most of the roadmap defined from the beginning between the two countries has been completed, the newspaper says.

The process will not be limited to F-16s only. Two important delegations from the US will arrive in Türkiye in the spring. One of them is energy, the other is a trade mission. The US is particularly interested in green energy and wants to cooperate in this regard. As for the trade delegation, the heads of 50 major US companies are planning to come to Türkiye in May.

Also, high-level visits are planned. First, Turkish Foreign Minister Hakan Fidan will visit Washington. And then there may be a meeting between Erdogan and Biden at the NATO summit in Washington in July 2024.
