Turkish military neutralizes over 1,000 terrorists in Iraq, Syria since January

The Turkish Defence Ministry has reported that since January 1, 2024, more than 1,000 terrorists have been neutralized in Iraq and Syria.

Zeki Aktürk, head of the ministry's press service, announced that a total of 1,353 terrorists have been neutralized in the region, Caliber.Az reports.

"In the past two weeks alone, 28 terrorists were neutralized, including operations conducted in Iraq and northern Syria," Aktürk stated. "Since the beginning of the year, 632 terrorists were neutralized in northern Iraq and 723 in northern Syria."

He further detailed that significant quantities of weaponry and equipment, including anti-tank weapons, multiple rocket launchers, grenade launchers, large-calibre machine guns, and various types of ammunition, were discovered and seized during search and scan operations in areas such as the villages of Dergele and Miska, and districts like Hakurk and Metina.

The PKK, notorious for using northern Iraq as a base for planning attacks, targets both Türkiye and local communities in northern Syria. Turkish authorities use the term "neutralize" to denote that terrorists have surrendered, been killed, or captured.

Throughout its nearly four-decade campaign against Türkiye, the PKK—recognized as a terrorist organization by Türkiye, the US, and the EU—has been responsible for more than 40,000 fatalities, including women, children, and infants.
