Turkish MP advocates for Azerbaijan-Armenia normalization in Washington discussions
Chair of the Turkish parliament’s Foreign Affairs Committee Fuat Oktay has discussed normalization of relations between Azerbaijan and Armenia as he met with members of the US Congress in Washington.
Oktay said that during the meeting they also discussed issues of the bilateral agenda of the US and Türkiye, the existing differences between the countries, particularly in the issue of fighting terrorism, Anadolu Agency reports.
"If the US stops supporting the YPG/PKK terrorist organization, a new page could be opened in bilateral relations. We also raised the context of the fight against the FETO terrorist organization. We also have differences over the situation in Gaza. The situation in Gaza was one of the main topics of our discussions. One of the powers capable of stopping the war in the Middle East is the United States," he said.
Oktay noted that he informed the congressmen of Türkiye's position on the war in Ukraine: "Türkiye supports the territorial integrity and sovereignty of Ukraine. We are negotiating with both Russia and the US".
In addition, Oktay pointed to CAATSA sanctions, emphasizing that the sanctions imposed on Ankara during Türkiye 's purchase of S-400 air defense systems from Russia, known as the Countering America's Adversaries Through Sanctions Act (CAATSA), should now be renegotiated and lifted.
