Iran officially confirms US strikes on its nuclear facilities

The Atomic Energy Organisation of Iran (AEOI) has confirmed that US forces carried out airstrikes on several of the country’s nuclear facilities, including sites in Fordow, Natanz, and Isfahan on June 22 morning.

The AEOI condemned the strikes, calling them a direct violation of international law and a breach of the Treaty on the Non-Proliferation of Nuclear Weapons (NPT), Caliber.Az reports via Lebanese media.

“This attack is a violation of international law, particularly the Treaty on the Non-Proliferation of Nuclear Weapons,” the statement read.

Iranian officials believe the US airstrikes represent a continuation of recent Israeli military operations targeting Iran’s nuclear infrastructure. 

The AEOI also criticised the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA), blaming what it described as the agency’s “indifference” and lack of action in response to escalating threats against Iran’s nuclear programme. 

Multiple reports have recently surfaced claiming that the US carried out airstrikes on three of Iran’s nuclear sites, including the heavily fortified Fordow Fuel Enrichment Plant, as well as facilities in Natanz and Isfahan.

US President Donald Trump described the mission as a “very successful attack” intended to severely damage Iran’s nuclear capabilities, asserting that the targeted locations were “completely and fully obliterated.” The operation is said to have involved US warplanes and was reportedly coordinated with Israel, which had launched earlier strikes to degrade Iran’s air defenses ahead of the American assault.
