Turkish Navy boosting its military might
Türkiye continues to increase its military power. This year, the Turkish Navy will be replenished with three new developments from ASELSAN, the flagship of the Turkish defence industry.
The company presented its original developments at the world's largest aviation, astronautics and technology festival TEKNOFEST in Izmir.
The festival also featured ASELSAN naval systems, which entered service for the first time this year and are currently under development.
In a conversation with Anadolu, ASELSAN CEO Ahmet Akyol said that the company has recently been working on developing new types of systems for naval platforms.
According to him, the ship's short-range air defense system GÖKDENİZ was recently integrated into the fifth frigate MILGEM. “To date, the company has signed export contracts with three countries,” said the general director.
Akyol noted that the company has also completed work on the development of indigenous air defence radars, which in previous years were purchased abroad and from time to time there were difficulties in obtaining them.
“The CENK radar also took its place on the fifth frigate MILGEM. This is extremely high technology. Radar allows the detection and identification of all aircraft, missiles and surface vehicles approaching the ship. It will enter service with the Turkish Navy this year,” the general director said.
According to him, the AKREP fire control radar will also enter service with the Turkish Navy this year. This system is also integrated on the fifth MILGEM frigate, he noted.
The CEO said that the company is also working on developing underwater weapons systems. “Türkiye's first autonomous underwater vehicle, DERINGÖZ, will also enter service soon,” he added.
