Turkish Parliament speaker: Turkic world development poses no threat to global peace
The development of the Turkic world poses no threat to global peace, stated Numan Kurtulmuş, Speaker of Türkiye's Grand National Assembly, during a joint press conference with Sahiba Gafarova, Speaker of Azerbaijan's Milli Majlis (parliament).
Kurtulmuş emphasized that Azerbaijan has made significant contributions to the development of the Turkic world, Caliber.Az reports per local media.
"It is essential to take steps towards achieving sustainable peace in the South Caucasus. The region we inhabit is in need of peace," he said.
Commenting further, Kurtulmuş stressed Türkiye’s commitment to fostering cooperation and promoting regional stability.
"Türkiye seeks a just and lasting peace in the South Caucasus, aiming to end tensions and support reconstruction efforts in Karabakh," he stated.
He also underlined the strategic importance of the Zangezur Corridor, describing it as a key route for fostering cooperation, security, and global trade. "The Zangezur Corridor will serve as a vital transit point for international trade and a pathway to collaboration and security. Türkiye fully supports Azerbaijan and will continue to do so," he added.
The Speaker called for the opening of the corridor as a "corridor of peace" that would benefit not only Azerbaijan and Türkiye but also other countries in the region. He emphasized the need to ensure normalization without interference from external powers.
"We believe the Zangezur Corridor is essential for regional interests and stability," he remarked, expressing hope for its swift implementation.
The Zangezur Corridor, which connects Azerbaijan's mainland to its Nakhchivan exclave through Armenian territory, is expected to play a crucial role in bolstering trade and regional ties.
As Türkiye and Azerbaijan strengthen their partnership, the corridor is seen as a key step towards economic and geopolitical stability in the South Caucasus.
