Turkish special envoy arrives in Armenia to advance normalisation talks
Serdar Kılıç, Türkiye’s special envoy for the normalisation of Armenian–Türkiye relations, has arrived in Armenia.
Kılıç was welcomed at the Margara checkpoint on the Armenian–Turkish border by Ruben Rubinyan, Armenia’s special envoy for the normalisation of relations with Türkiye, Caliber.Az reports per Armenian media.
The Margara checkpoint, situated on the Armenia–Türkiye border, has seen a series of developments in recent years aimed at modernising infrastructure and improving border operations.
Renovation efforts have included upgrades to facilities and equipment, reflecting broader efforts to enhance efficiency and security.
In addition to infrastructure improvements, the checkpoint has been a site for ongoing diplomatic engagement. In July 2024, officials from Armenia and Türkiye met at the nearby Margara–Alican area to discuss issues such as the potential reopening of the border, the movement of third-country nationals, and possible railway connections.
While no definitive agreements were reached, the discussions indicate a continued interest from both sides in maintaining dialogue and exploring ways to manage cross-border transit and cooperation.
