The Turkish Armed Forces have successfully neutralized a total of 15 PKK/YPG terrorists in recent operations across northern Iraq and Syria, according to an announcement by the Turkish Ministry of National Defence.
In a statement posted on social media platform X, the Ministry reported that Turkish forces eliminated five PKK terrorists in the Gara district and the Pençe-Kilit operation zone in northern Iraq. Additionally, 10 PKK/YPG terrorists were neutralized in the Euphrates Shield and Source of Peace areas in northern Syria.
These operations form part of Türkiye's ongoing efforts to combat terrorist threats from the PKK (Kurdistan Workers' Party) and YPG (People's Protection Units), which Türkiye considers affiliated with terrorism. The recent successes underscore Türkiye's commitment to addressing security challenges along its borders and in the broader region.
Since 2016, Ankara has launched a trio of successful anti-terror operations across its border in northern Syria to prevent the formation of a terror corridor and enable the peaceful settlement of residents: Euphrates Shield (2016), Olive Branch (2018), and Peace Spring (2019).
Türkiye launched Operation Claw-Lock in April 2022 to target the PKK terror group’s hideouts in the Metina, Zap, and Avasin-Basyan regions of northern Iraq, located near the Turkish border.
The anti-terror operations came after last month’s PKK terror attack that killed 12 Turkish soldiers in northern Iraq. Since then, Turkish airstrikes have destroyed dozens of terror targets in northern Iraq and Syria, near the border, and neutralized several senior terrorists.
In its more than 35-year terror campaign against Türkiye, the PKK – listed as a terrorist organization by Türkiye, the US, and EU – has been responsible for the deaths of more than 40,000 people, including women, children, and infants.
