The Chemical, Biological, Radiological, and Nuclear Protection Unit of the Turkish Armed Forces plays an active role in ensuring the security of the 2022 FIFA World Cup in Qatar.
According to Anadolu Agency, the Turkish CBRN specialists stationed at the military base in Doha are ready around the clock to respond to all types of chemical, biological and nuclear threats. The experts have all the necessary equipment at their disposal and have worked out dozens of attack response scenarios for the tournament.
Earlier, the Qatari government had asked friendly and allied countries to help secure the 2022 FIFA World Cup.
A Joint Task Force involving Türkiye as well as the US, UK, Italy, France, and Pakistan has been formed to assist the Qatari Armed Forces.
To ensure security at the Championships, in addition to the CBRN unit, Türkiye deployed the domestic anti-submarine corvette Burgazada, built under the MILGEM project, the group of PMKİ sappers, the Special Forces Bomb Search Unit and the Anti-drone Unit.
The TCG Burgazada corvette was sent to Qatar after the Turkish parliament approved a relevant bill signed by President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan.
The Joint Task Force, set up to ensure the security of the Mundial, is managed from a special Coordination Centre.
