Turkish, US presidents to hold phone call on May 29
Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan and US President Joe Biden will hold a telephone conversation on the evening of May 29.
Turkish president’s press secretary Ibrahim Kalin made the remarks, Caliber.Az reports.
US President Joseph Biden earlier congratulated Recep Tayyip Erdogan on his victory in the presidential election.
"I look forward to continuing to work with our NATO ally on bilateral issues and common global challenges,” he noted.
According to unofficial results, the Turkish incumbent won the race with 52.14 per cent, while Kilicdaroglu got 47.86 per cent of the vote, he said. He added that 99.43 per cent of the ballot boxes have been opened so far.
In the first round of the election on May 14, no candidate got the 50 per cent needed for an outright victory, triggering the presidential runoff, though Erdogan took the lead with 49.52 per cent. Parliamentary elections were also held that day, with Erdogan's electoral alliance winning a majority of seats.
