Türkiye achieves 5 million cubic meters per day in Black Sea gas production

25 May 2024 11:32

The head of Türkiye's Ministry of Energy, Alparslan Bayraktar, announced that gas production at the Sakarya field in the Black Sea has surged to 5 million cubic meters daily.

Bayraktar shared this milestone during an interview on Habertürk TV.

"We're currently hitting record figures with 5 million cubic meters per day at the Sakarya field. By the first quarter of next year, our goal is to double production to 10 million cubic meters per day," stated the minister.

Bayraktar outlined plans to elevate Black Sea gas production by fivefold by 2028.

In April of the previous year, Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan inaugurated the supply of Black Sea gas from the Sakarya field to the country. Upon reaching full capacity, the project aims to produce up to 60 million cubic meters daily, covering 30% of Türkiye's natural gas requirements.

Türkiye's confirmed gas reserves in the Black Sea currently stand at approximately 710 billion cubic meters, sufficient to satisfy domestic demand at the household level for 35 years, as previously indicated by authorities.
