Türkiye advances with new constitution drafting process
Turkish parliament speaker Numan Kurtulmus has said that efforts to draft and adopt a new constitution are set to be completed within a year.
The proposed document is expected to be presented to the parliament during the autumn session of 2025, Kurtulmus said, Caliber.Az reports per Russian media.
Kurtulmus outlined the plan to finalize negotiations on the new constitution from October 2024 to October 2025 and to commence its adoption process in the new legislative session. He also mentioned that starting in October, the drafting process will involve input from non-governmental organizations, universities, the judiciary, and the public.
“We will consider every opinion,” Kurtulmus stated.
“One of the primary goals of the 28th Parliament is to create a modern, democratic, inclusive, and comprehensive constitution. I perceive a strong desire within our parliament to enact a new constitution and am hopeful that this will be achieved,” he added.
