Türkiye arrests 11 cybercriminals in major data breach operation

21 April 2026 12:00

Türkiye’s National Intelligence Organisation (MİT) has carried out a large-scale operation against a cybercrime network accused of illegally accessing state information systems and citizens’ personal data.

As a result of the operation, 12 suspects were detained, 11 of whom were arrested, Caliber.Az reports, citing Turkish media.

Investigators said among them was the alleged ringleader responsible for the network’s technical infrastructure. Eight of the 11 arrested individuals are minors.

The investigation was conducted with the participation of cyber units, the gendarmerie, and Türkiye’s Financial Crimes Investigation Board (MASAK).

Authorities noted that the suspects gained access to around 40 different systems containing personal data, which were subsequently taken offline.

The network operated on a “franchise” model, selling access to systems to third parties for a monthly fee, with total financial turnover estimated at around 177 million Turkish lira.

The use of cryptocurrency wallets to conceal proceeds was also reported.

The Ankara Chief Prosecutor’s Office made it clear that the suspects face charges including cybercrime, unlawful access and dissemination of personal data, and interference with information systems.
