Türkiye detains wanted fugitives in extensive multi-district operation
A total of 157 individuals, either wanted by law enforcement or already been sentenced to prison, have been apprehended in a large-scale police operation in the Turkish city of Izmir.
The early-morning raids were carried out simultaneously across multiple districts of the city. A total of 185 police officers took part in coordinated searches and arrests at 96 separate addresses, TRT Haber reports, citing the Izmir Police Department.
The detainees include suspects and convicted individuals involved in a range of offences, including theft, robbery, bodily harm, unlawful deprivation of liberty, sexual assault and harassment, threats involving weapons, extortion, drug trafficking, and fraud.
The operation also targeted individuals suspected of weapons-related offences, smuggling, tax crimes, drunk driving, and acts endangering road traffic safety.
All those detained have been transferred to judicial authorities for further proceedings.
