Türkiye develops Commando mortar PHOTO / VIDEO
The new Commando mortar, developed by Türkiye's defence industry to provide close-range fire support for infantry units, will be used soon.
ASSAN Group Defense, which specialises in the production of aviation bombs, heavy weaponry, and ammunition, as well as parts and subsystems for combat vehicles, has reached a significant milestone by introducing its first fully indigenous product into the arsenal of the armed forces. With the increasing number of highly mobile commando units and the need to equip them effectively, the development of the 60mm Commando mortar became essential, Caliber.Az reports, citing the message posted by Defence Here on X.

The Commando mortar, having undergone around 20 rigorous tests and successfully completing over 400 live-fire trials under various conditions, is set to provide close-range fire support for special operations units. The Commando mortar is a weapon designed for indirect fire, in contrast to other weapons in commando units that primarily operate with direct fire, allowing accurate targeting at distances of 500 to 800 metres.
The 60mm mortar is capable of striking targets at ranges of 1,500 to 2,000 metres, depending on the type of ammunition. Besides high-explosive rounds, the mortar can also be equipped with illumination, smoke, or training munitions. ASSAN Group Defense's solution stands out from similar products due to its support legs, a versatile sighting system, and a precise muzzle-firing mechanism integrated into the mortar.
This weapon provides direct heavy-fire support for commando units. The mortar, capable of firing over 6,000 rounds, has an extended service life thanks to its barrel, which is made from a special type of steel designed for durability.
