Türkiye: Eşme mayor detained in bribery probe
The Mayor of Eşme, Yılmaz Tozan, has been detained in Türkiye as part of an investigation into alleged “irtikap” (graft) offences linked to the municipality in Uşak province.
The Eşme Chief Public Prosecutor’s Office issued detention orders for Tozan, his wife, Burcu Tozan, and four other suspects in connection with the case, Caliber.Az reports per Turkish media.
Police teams from the provincial Anti-Smuggling and Organised Crime Department carried out coordinated raids on multiple addresses, detaining the mayor, his wife, and three additional suspects.
During a search at the Eşme Municipality building, investigators reportedly seized several digital materials relevant to the inquiry.
Authorities said one remaining suspect is still at large, with efforts ongoing to locate and detain the individual.
The investigation is continuing.
