Türkiye expands satellite network through collaboration with China

Türkiye’s national satellite communications operator, TÜRKSAT A.Ş., has entered into strategic cooperation agreements with leading Chinese satellite companies ChinaSat and Spacesail.

The partnerships aim to strengthen Türkiye's position in the global satellite communications industry and promote joint technological development.

According to TÜRKSAT, as cited by Anadolu Agency, the agreements encompass collaborative work in several key areas — including in-flight internet connectivity, global maritime communications, mobile terrestrial communication systems, and emergency communication technologies. The parties also intend to provide joint services for international markets, focusing on multi-satellite orbital systems.

Under the agreement with ChinaSat, the two sides will develop high-capacity satellite solutions designed for aviation, maritime transport, mobile communications, and emergency response systems. The project will also involve Aero Link and SinoSat as technological partners, contributing their expertise to the initiative.

Additionally, TÜRKSAT has signed a strategic cooperation agreement with the Chinese space technology firm Spacesail. Within this framework, the partners will work on the development of hybrid systems that combine geostationary (GEO) and low Earth orbit (LEO) satellites. This integration will enable the creation of high-bandwidth, low-latency solutions intended for the energy, mining, maritime, aviation, and corporate communications sectors.

Through these partnerships, TÜRKSAT seeks to expand its global reach, enhance technological innovation, and reinforce Türkiye’s role as an emerging power in the international satellite communications market.
