Türkiye follows ongoing search and rescue after military cargo plane crashes in Georgia

Türkiye is closely monitoring the search and rescue operations following the crash of a Turkish military cargo plane in Georgia, Numan Kurtulmuş, Chairman of the Grand National Assembly of Turkey, stated on his social network X page.

“Informed of the unfortunate news that a military cargo plane of our Ministry of National Defence, which was returning to Türkiye from Azerbaijan, crashed in Georgia. We are closely following the ongoing search and rescue efforts at the scene. I express my condolences,” Kurtulmuş wrote, as per domestic media.

The crash occurred in the Signagi area, approximately five kilometres from the Georgian state border, while the plane was flying from Azerbaijan to Türkiye. Turkish authorities confirmed the aircraft belonged to the Turkish Armed Forces and that 20 servicemen were on board.

Search and rescue operations were immediately coordinated with Georgian and Azerbaijani authorities. The Turkish Ministry of National Defence confirmed the deployment of emergency teams to the crash site to provide assistance and assess the situation.
