Turkiye getting ready to export Yavuz self-propelled guns
The Turkish defence company “MKE AŞ” (Makine ve Kimya Endüstrisi Anonim Şirketi) is preparing to export the Yavuz self-propelled artillery systems that meet the most stringent NATO standards.
Mounted on a modified 6x6 truck chassis, the howitzer is equipped with an armoured cab. Preparing the system for firing takes about a minute, the displacement takes 2 minutes, according to Anadolu Agency.
This 155-mm/52-calibre towed howitzer has already been tested successfully during Turkish military operations. The Yavuz system team consists of five people.
The development of the MKE AŞ company reportedly solves the problem of mobility and restrictions in the transfer of artillery over long distances. The maximum speed is 90 km/h.
The howitzer is designed for three different types of ammunition, including the 155-mm NATO standard. The firing range of the Mod 274 projectile reaches 40 km.
MKE AŞ stressed that work is underway to double the firing range.
