Türkiye hails Armenia elections, calls for progress on regional peace

09 June 2026 13:33

Türkiye has welcomed the outcome of Armenia's parliamentary elections, commending the conduct of the vote and voicing hope for further progress in regional peace and normalization efforts.

In a written statement, the Turkish Foreign Ministry said Ankara was pleased that the June 7 parliamentary elections were held "in an atmosphere of peace and tranquility," TRT reports.

The ministry stated: "In the post-election period, we hope that Armenia will take bolder steps toward peace and normalization in the region."

The Turkish Foreign Ministry also reaffirmed Ankara's commitment to supporting stability and economic prosperity across the region.

"Türkiye, as it has done so far, will continue to contribute to regional stability and prosperity on the basis of the common interests of the countries of the region," the statement said.

The normalization of relations between Armenia and Türkiye remains one of the central foreign policy priorities of the government of Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan.

Ahead of the elections, Armenian Foreign Minister Ararat Mirzoyan said Yerevan expects to achieve full normalization of relations with Türkiye in the near future, underscoring the importance both sides place on advancing the ongoing dialogue process.
