Türkiye hails need to abolish right of veto in UN Security Council
23 September 2022 20:42
Turkish Foreign Minister Mevlut Cavusoglu has said that Türkiye stands for the abolition of the veto system in the UN Security Council.
The minister made the remarks following the participation of the Turkish delegation in the 77th session of the UN General Assembly on September 23, according to TASS.
“Numerous politicians say that the world is bigger than the five permanent members of the UN Security Council,” the diplomat said.
A mechanism for making decisions by majority vote can replace the right of veto, Cavusoglu said.
“The main thing in this issue is to ensure maximum coverage and fairness,” he said and reminded that Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan’s appeal to reform the UN is supported by more heads of state worldwide.
