Türkiye investigating incident with Russian cargo ship

Türkiye has launched an investigation into the origin of the grain that was transported by the seized Zhibek Zholy cargo ship flying under the Russian flag.

Türkiye launched an investigation into the origin of grain found in the Russian vessel after Ukraine stated that its cargo had been stolen, Bloomberg reports citing the Turkish officials, according to Interfax.

The Zhibek Zholy was moored in the port of the Turkish Karasu town, senior Turkish officials said on condition of anonymity.

Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov said on July 4 that it was necessary to clarify this incident.

In turn, Press Secretary of the Russian president Dmitry Peskov said that the Kremlin has no information about the dry cargo ship seized in Türkiye.

“Unfortunately, the Kremlin does not have this information. I think it is necessary to appeal to the ministry of transport or the foreign ministry. In case of seizing a cargo ship, the Turkish side should notify about the incident through our embassy or consulate general,” Peskov said.
