Türkiye, Iraq sign one-year oil pipeline agreement

01 August 2026 16:43

Türkiye has signed a one-year agreement with Iraqi state oil entities to ensure continued crude exports through the Iraq–Türkiye pipeline, Energy Minister Alparslan Bayraktar said, highlighting the route’s importance for global markets.

The deal was concluded between Türkiye’s state pipeline operator BOTAŞ and Iraq’s state firms SOMO and North Oil Company (NOC). Bayraktar wrote on X that it provides for crude transit volumes of up to 750,000 barrels per day and will remain in effect until a new long-term agreement is finalised, as per Caliber.Az.

The pipeline links oil production areas in Iraq to the Mediterranean export terminal at Ceyhan in Türkiye, serving as a key corridor for shipments to international markets.

Bayraktar said the route remains a strategic channel for oil flows and plays a significant role in supporting both regional stability and global energy security.

He added that Ankara and Baghdad intend to deepen energy cooperation, with plans to expand exports through Ceyhan beyond Iraqi crude to include other regional energy resources.
