Türkiye launches citywide raids, detains dozens of ISIS suspects
Turkish authorities have detained more than one hundred suspects in a sweeping counterterrorism operation targeting the Islamic State (ISIS) in Istanbul.
Officers from the Istanbul Police Department’s Counterterrorism Branch carried out coordinated raids across the city, targeting 124 addresses in what officials described as a major operation against the extremist group, TRT Haber reports.
As a result of the raids, 115 of 137 identified suspects were taken into custody. Authorities said the detainees were allegedly planning attacks and terrorist acts in the period leading up to Christmas and the New Year, and were believed to have links to conflict zones through ISIS-related activities.
Searches conducted during the operation led to the seizure of pistols, ammunition, and a significant volume of organizational documents. Police said efforts are continuing to locate and apprehend the remaining suspects.
